Amakula International Film Festival - Uganda
Amakula International Film Festival are accepting entries for 2017 film submissions not later than 1st December 2016.
The Amakula International Film Festival is Uganda’s oldest independent film festival that aims to contribute to a vibrant local film industry, by broadening access to and developing audiences for quality African film production; inspiring local film makers to produce quality local films based on own stories; facilitating, presenting and promoting local film productions; and offering a professional networking platform for the film making community in East Africa and beyond.
The festival aims to provide a networking and learning space. Directors and lead actors are therefore expected to attend the festival and screening(s) once their film is selected. Directors from outside Uganda are also encouraged to be present. Whereas the festival producing organizations may extend invitations to all filmmakers to attend at their expense, directors are encouraged to find (travel, visa, accommodation, insurance) support and inform the festival producing organizations about any support or funding they might have.
Deadline for submissions, including delivery of screeners, is 1st December 2016.
Submissions need to be accompanied by the following materials:
- A duly completed and signed entry form (download or fill out online)
- A synopsis of the film in English, a biography of the director together with publicity materials
- English subtitles for films with other languages
For films in competition hard copy submission is required. Please send 2 DVDs or 2 Blue Ray or a flash disk. For films out of competition hard copy (2 DVDs or 2 Blue Ray) or online submission (through a password protected Vimeo video; avoid ftp links and do not send your account login information) are accepted; YouTube links are not accepted.
Hard copy submissions, together with the above-mentioned materials, should be sent to the following address:
Amakula International Film Festival
c/o Bayimba Cultural Foundation
P.O. Box 34806
Freight costs must be paid by the sender. The festival producing organisations will not be responsible for DVDs lost or damaged in the mail. Neither are they responsible for initial poor condition of DVDs. Return of films will be at the request and cost of the sender.
Upon receipt of your submission you will receive a confirmation. The selection committee will decide on which films will be programmed for screening. If your film has been selected you will be notified. Films are confirmed at different stages and we will only be able to respond to successful film submissions. Films qualifying for an award are judged by an independent jury panel.
