The Suit, the first film adaptation of the classic South African short story by Can Themba, has been selected for the 25th Pan African Film Festival, taking place in Los Angeles from 9 to 20 February.
This follows a number of successes for short film - adapted and directed by up-and-coming filmmaker Jarryd Coetsee of Mandala Films - since launching on the international festival circuit just over six months ago.
It won the short film competition of the Africa in Motion Scotland African Film Festival in November, scooped the Audience Award at the Cape Town leg of the Shnit International Short Film Festival in October, and was an official selection of the Oscar-qualifying Urbanworld Film Festival in New York in September.
It also earned a Special Mention from the jury at the Zanzibar International Film Festival, where it had its African premiere in July.
The world's biggest Afrocentric film festival
The Pan African Film Festival is one of the largest gatherings of the African diaspora and the biggest Afrocentric film festival in the world.
"What a tremendous honour to share this story's relevant and transformative message on such a prestigious international platform," Coetsee said in a statement following the announcement of the film's selection last month.
