There’s a familiar phrase among actors that goes, “acting is reacting.” And while it’s true, it applies to much more than just acting. The truth is, we’re always reacting, even when we’re not on stage or in an audition.
I’m sure at this point in the game we all view ourselves as audition professionals. We’ve had our share of cattle-call auditions and one-on-one readings with the producer or director. But what really works? What tactic lands you that big job?
There are direct lines of connection between everyone and everything in this business. Actors who see those lines increase their chances of working. Those who ignore them fade away like an oil painting that’s been left out in the sun.
After having worked as an actor and having cast hundreds of actors in roles, I can count “professionalism” as one of those qualities I look for in an actor. I find it very favourable and will cast one actor over another if I know the one I cast is more of a professional.
